BIOGRAPHY

Praised by Opera News and ArtsATL as a "standout", young American mezzo Gina Perregrino is already garnering attention on stages internationally.​

 

Gina has been heard at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Seattle Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Minnesota Opera, Opera Philadelphia, The Dallas OperaOpera Theatre of Saint Louis, Ópera de GuatemalaThe Atlanta Opera, OperaDelaware, and Central City Opera where she sang the title role in a performance of Carmen.​

Gina and her voice were featured in the motion picture Bawaal (Time Please), directed by award winning Bollywood film director Nitesh Tiwari; filmed in Berlin, Germany with an expected release in 2023.

 

In the opera world, Gina made her company debut with the Santa Fe Opera as Paquette in a new production of Candide by Laurent Pelly, and she returned in 2019 to sing the role of Pastuchyňa in Janáček’s Jenůfa.​

Also an interpreter of art song, she was a featured recitalist twice with the New York Festival of Song and the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts under the direction of Steven Blier and Michael Barrett. 

She is a 2019 grant winner from the Santa Fe Opera and 2020 and 2021 winner of the Opera Foundation NYC; as well as the first prize winner of the Metropolitan International Vocal Competition, and a district winner with the Metropolitan Opera National Council.

Gina is no stranger to major recording projects. Under the overseeing of Salman Rushdie, Gina performed and recorded the role of the Blindwoman in the world premiere of the opera Shalimar the Clown (based on the novel with the same name) with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. The recording was distributed on iTunes, Spotify, and all major outlets.

Her performance as Maddalena in Rigoletto with Ópera de Guatemala was recorded and broadcast on Univisión TeleOnce throughout parts of Mexico and Central America.

Before the surge of COVID-19, Gina was contracted with Boston Lyric Opera for their 2020 production of Giulio Cesare in Egitto that was cancelled.

In the 2021-22 season as live theater reemerges, Gina returns to the The Atlanta Opera as Jenny in Threepenny Opera, debuts with Oregon Symphony for Handel's Messiah, and joins Deutsche Oper Berlin in Berlin, Germany as a season ensemble member.

 

She is a graduate of Manhattan School of Music in New York City and has her own virtual and in-person studio. She is a traveling faculty member at The Music School in Wilmington, Delaware.
